Introduced by its shimmering ruby color, our 2007 Merlot opens with enticingly fresh, vivid aromas of black cherry and red plum fruit, perfectly complemented by fragrant rose hips tea, sweet oak and light herbal tones. In mouth, flavors are startlingly rich, creamy and luscious, with concentrated red cherry and plum skin fruitiness invigorated by seeped-tea spice tones and tangy acidity. Although Merlot is stereotyped as a drink-me-now red, deep fruit and superb structure of this rendition argue for one to three years of aging. Those who can't wait are advised to uncork this beauty with herb-roasted chicken, black-olive pizza or Merlot-marinated game hen. Wine Enthusiast rating: 89.

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. Arietta H Block Hudson Vineyards Napa Valley is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Cabernet Franc is solely from the 2.3 acre Hudson Vineyards H Block, a shy-bearing, volcanic, southwest facing slope, which naturally yields just three tons per acre. The Merlot is grown in the Hudson Vineyards N Block, about 100 yards away. Typically, the two fields are picked simultaneously and co-fermented, assuring a marriage of the varieties. The Cabernet Franc provides the cassis, blueberry, brown sugar character, while the Merlot brings dark chocolate to the aroma and a chewy richness to the finish. Harvested near the extreme of ripeness, the wine is fermented with its indigenous yeast, macerated with the skins for six weeks, and then aged for two years in all new French oak barrels. Naturally clarified by traditional Bordeaux racking, the blend is bottled without fining or filtration. The intense concentration masks the substantial tannin, allowing the wine to be served young and to age in bottle for 10 or more years. BORDEAUX BLEND Wine California Still Wine

The 2000 (also 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) is light, but fruity, elegant, and pretty. It exhibits an evolved personality, displaying notes of coffee, black cherry and currant fruit, and spicy new oak. Although medium-bodied, it does not ha... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Our typical winemaking style for red wines is a warm fermentation followed by pressing and racking. The wine then goes to Oak barrels and generally spends 18-20 months in a combination of American and French oak barrels. While most producers of Merlot tend toward the soft and supple wine style, we have opted, because of the quality of the grapes, to make a wine in a rich, generous style. This wine is a mouthful of pleasure: lots of fruit, medium tannins and a long lingering finish. We would recommend some cellar time for this wine if only to allow all of the great aromas and flavors properly meld. We feel that this wine can compete with any Merlot from any growing region anywhere in the world.
